After completion of a thorough rebuilding and a period of preparations, the first patient (with esophageal cancer) was irradiated on April 15th using the recently obtained equipment for internal irradiation (brachytherapy) by Isodose Control.
On May 26th and 27th, the first patient with prostate cancer was successfully treated with brachytherapy. This is a new treatment technique dramatically shortening the overall treatment time when compared to external beam irradiation and also further reducing the probability of side-effects. Using this new equipment, everything takes place in one combined session: from the acquisition of required images to the actual irradiation. Until now, this treatment was predominantly given in hospitals abroad, mostly in a series of separate sessions. For Isodose Control, application of this new method is the world’s first.
